CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The No. 38 Old Dominion men’s tennis team (14-4) had its 12-match win streak snapped in heartbreaking fashion to No. 50 Harvard (11-8) by a 4-3 score at the Murr Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon.
The Tennis Monarchs jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after a solid doubles performance. ODU’s duos of Michael Weindl/Javier Jover-Maestre and Jose Nunez-Navarro/Jacob Nicolussi, each beat their opponents 6-3, respectively.
Old Dominion’s Adam Moundir helped extend the lead when he made quick work of Nicky Hu in straight sets 6-1, 6-2 in No. 1 singles. Harvard came firing back with a victory of their own on Court 5. ODU’s Michael Weindl took down the Crimson’s Brian Yeung 6-1, 6-4 to extend the Monarchs lead to 3-1. But it was Harvard that stole the victory by claiming wins in the last three matches on Courts 2, 4 and 6.
The Tennis Monarchs will return to action April 2 and 3, when they travel to Mobile, Alabama to take on UAB and South Alabama, for the last two legs of their eight-game road trip.
