NORFOLK, Va. -- The Old Dominion women's lacrosse team suffered its first loss of the season on Wednesday evening, falling to Richmond, 13-7, at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex.

Old Dominion (3-1) was led by Ashmore Standing, who tallied a team-high four goals, which moves her into eighth all-time in ODU history with 118 career goals. Connor Carson, Megan Topper and Cydney Tutchton each added a goal, while Mary Margaret McCaleb and Morgan Marrale each contributed an assist.

"I like how we played the full 60 minutes," said head coach Heather Holt. "We were definitely passionate about playing tonight. So, I don't doubt the effort. We had a gameplan, but we didn't stick to it. When you do that in lacrosse, they can get some quick goals on you and that is what happened."

Richmond (3-1) opened the scoring less than five minutes into the game, but ODU quickly answered on Standing's first score of the game. The teams would then trade goals, before the Spiders scored five unanswered goals to take an 8-3 lead into halftime.

ODU closed the gap to 11-6 with 11:23 remaining after back-to-back goals from Carson and Tutchon, but the Lady Monarchs' late rally would not be enough, as the Spiders held on for the 13-7 victory.

Maggi Buckley played the full 60 minutes in net for ODU, recording 12 saves. Defensively, Morgan Gallagher and Missy Koscinski each caused two turnovers. Carson, Gallagher and Natalie Ledwitz each recorded two draw controls.

Natalia Chaney led the Spiders with four goals, while Kim Egizi and Mia Castagnero each added two goals and one assist.

"Our shots just weren't dropping tonight," said Holt. "We hit the post a few times, which is just heartbreaking. So, a couple of things like that can deflate you, and then once they get a few goals on you in between that, it's not easy to come back."
