Providence, R.I. – The No. 71 Old Dominion Lady Tennis Monarchs (8-5) took down Boston University (6-7) on Saturday afternoon by 5-2 score in Providence, Rhode Island. With the win, Old Dominion has now claimed victory in seven of its last nine matches. On Sunday, March 20, ODU will face No. 68 Brown University (11-4).

The Lady Tennis Monarchs started the day by jumping out to a 1-0 advantage after claiming the doubles points, as tandems Nikol Hristova/Nataliya Vlasova and Borislava Botusharova/Marijana Novakovic each handled business, 6-3, on courts two and three, respectively.

Old Dominion followed up by winning four singles matches, impressively all in straight sets. Picking up wins for ODU in singles play on Saturday were Borislava Botusharova (7-5, 6-0), Nataliya Vlasova (6-1, 6-0), Nikol Hristova (6-4, 6-4) and Ingrid Vojcinakova (6-2, 6-1).

Sophomore Borislava Botusharova remains undefeated for ODU at the No. 2 singles position, posting a 5-0 record. Doubles duo Nikol Hristova and Nataliya Vlasova are winners of five of their last six, including two wins over ranked teams.

Boston University entered Saturday’s match with a 6-6 record, winning three of their last five. Sophomore Iryna Kostirko is the reigning Patriot Player of the Week for the second consecutive time.

Dom Manilla and the Lady Tennis Monarchs will square-off against No. 68 nationally ranked Brown on Sunday. The Bears are 11-4 on the season, with three of their four losses coming at the hands of top 50 opponents. The Bears are led by No. 68 nationally ranked singles player in Alyza Benotto, who recently knocked off No. 31 Kathrine Ip from Rice. Accompanying Benotto, is Dayna Lord who plays in the No. 1 singles spot for the Bears and also has added beating a ranked opponent in the past weekend to her resume. Rounding off Brown’s strong line-up are two freshmen at the No. 5 and No. 6 singles position with Katie Ta and Mariska Chamdani.
