MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – Old Dominion University Baseball split two extra inning games in a doubleheader today at West Virginia.  The Monarchs won game one 5-4 in 10 innings and dropped game two 6-5 in 12 innings.

In game one, the Monarchs led 4-1 entering the ninth inning but WVU scored three runs in the inning to tie the game at four. 

Kyle Beam led off the tenth inning for the Monarchs with a home run to give ODU a 5-4 lead. Morgan Maguire allowed a two-out single in the bottom of the tenth but came back to strike out Caleb Potter to end the game.

ODU took the first lead of the game in the first inning as Connor Myers led off the game with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Zach Rutherford. Beam followed with a single up the middle to score Myers for a 1-0 ODU lead. Cole Austin knocked a sacrifice fly for the Mountaineers in the bottom of the first to tie the score at one.

Nick Walker gave ODU a 2-1 lead in the third with an RBI double and added two more runs in the fourth.  Myers knocked in a run on a ground out while Nick Walker scored a run with a bases loaded walk to make the score 4-1.

Beam and Lustrino had two hits apiece for the Monarchs. Nick Hartman got the win while Maguire earned the first save of his career.

In game two, ODU trailed 3-0 into the seventh inning but scored four runs in the inning.  Nick Lustrino worked a one-out walk and moved to third on a Jason McMurray double. Turner Bishop reached on an error that scored Lustrino.  Grey Finwood added a single that scored McMurray to make the score 3-2. Zach Rutherford knocked in a run with a sacrifice fly to tie the game while Walker singled to left to give ODU a 4-3 advantage.

Jimmy Galusky led off the WVU ninth with a triple and scored to tie the game on a sacrifice fly by Kyle Davis.

Nick Lustrino worked a bases loaded walk in the top of the 12th inning to score Zach Rutherford and give ODU a 5-4 lead but Galusky hit a walk-off single to right field to give West Virginia a 6-5 win.

Walker notched three hits in game two for the Monarchs.

Old Dominion returns home on Tuesday to begin a two game series against Princeton starting at 6 p.m.
