Lacrosse Falls at William & Mary, 17-14

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- The Old Dominion women's lacrosse team dropped a 17-14 defeat to William & Mary on Wednesday at the Martin Family Stadium in Williamsburg, Virginia.

Trailing 13-7 with 20 minutes remaining, Old Dominion (4-2) mounted a late comeback to pull within three at 15-12 with 4:12 remaining. However, William & Mary (3-3) responded with back-to-back goals to give them a five-goal cushion with two minutes remaining. The Lady Monarchs added two last-minute goals, but the Tribe would hold on for the 17-14 victoy.

Ashmore Standing paced the Lady Monarchs with a career-high seven goals. The senior now has 16 goals in her last three games. The seven-goal performance also brings her career total to 128, which moves her into fourth all-time in ODU history.

Mary Margaret McCaleb, who tallied three goals, was the only other Lady Monarch with multiple goals.

The Tribe opened the scoring to take an early 1-0 lead, but Old Dominion responded with back-to-back goals from Standing and McCaleb to take a 2-1 lead seven minutes into the game.

William & Mary responded with a six-goal rally to take the lead that they would not relinquish for the remainder of the game. William & Mary would carry a 10-4 lead into halftime, outshooting the Lady Monarchs, 15-9, and holding an 8-7 edge in draw controls in the first half. 

In the second half, ODU outscored William & Mary, 10-7, and held a commanding 21-11 shot advantage after halftime. Overall, the Lady Monarchs outshot the Tribe, 30-26, and caused 20 Tribe turnovers while committing just 17. William & Mary did hold a slight 17-16 edge in draw controls. 

Connor Carson, Natalie Ledwitz, Katie Miller and Megan Topper each tallied a goal to round out the scoring for ODU. Carson also recorded a team-high four draw controls. Defensively, Carson also caused four turnovers, while Imani Black forced three.

Maggi Buckley took the loss in goal for ODU, playing 51 minutes and tallying five saves. Freshman goalkeeper Lauren Ey made her second appearance of the season, playing nine minutes off the bench.
