NORFOLK, Va. -- Former Old Dominion standout and women's soccer assistant coach Chris Harmon has been named an assistant coach for the men's soccer program, head coach Alan Dawson announced on Monday.

"Chris had a terrific career here as a player," said Dawson. "He's very knowledgeable and very well-respected by the players and by myself. We're very delighted to have him on board. He knows what the culture is here and knows how to win. He has tremendous knowledge from playing here for four years and he can pass that on to these younger players."

Last year, Harmon served as an assistant coach for the Old Dominion women's soccer team this past year, helping lead the Lady Monarchs to an 8-12-1 record, the best since 2008, and advance to the semifinals of the Conference USA Tournament. Prior to his stint with the women's program, Harmon served as the Director of Operations for both the men's and women's programs.

Harmon served as assistant coach for Florida Southern in 2013 under the direction of former ODU men’s soccer standout and former ODU men’s soccer assistant coach Ryan Sniegoski.

The Downington, Pa., native played both midfielder and forward during his playing career at Old Dominion and was a first team NSCAA All-Region and first team All-CAA member in 2012. During his career, Harmon totaled 21 goals and 14 assists. His 56 career points ranks 12th all-time in program history.

Harmon replaces Tennant McVea, who was recently hired as an assistant coach at Elon University. McVea served as an assistant for three years at ODU, helping lead the Monarchs to two NCAA appearances and a Conference USA Championship in 2014.

"We wish Tennant the best of luck going forward," said Dawson. "We are obviously disappointed to lose Tennant, but we are happy for him and the new opportunity that awaits him."
