NORFOLK, Va. -- The Old Dominion women's lacrosse team looks to win its fourth consecutive game to open the 2016 season, when it hosts Richmond on Wednesday, March 2, at 6 p.m. at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex.

Old Dominion (3-0) seeks its first 4-0 start to a season since 2008. Last week, the Lady Monarchs defeated Virginia Tech, 10-7, giving the program its first victory over the Hokies since 1997. Ashmore Standing and Cydney Tutchton scored two goals apiece in that match, while goalkeeper Maggi Buckley tallied 12 saves. 

Overall, Standing leads the Monarchs in scoring this season with nine points on seven goals and two assists. Connor Carson and Morgan Marrale are tied for second on the team in scoring with a total of seven points. Defensively, Natalie Ledwitz has caused a team-high five turnovers, while Morgan Gallagher has caused four turnovers and collected five ground balls. In goal, Buckley ranks second in the Atlantic Sun in both goals against average and save percentage.

Richmond (2-1) is coming off of a tough 16-12 loss to No. 7 Virginia last week, after opening the season with wins over Mercer and Liberty. Freshman attacker Mia Castagnero leads the Spiders with 16 points on 12 goals and four assists, while junior attacker Natalia Chaney and senior midfielder Brooke Wilson each have eight goals.

ODU assistant coach Ashley Vellines is a 2007 graduate of Richmond, where she was a four-year starter and two-time first team all-conference selection for the Spiders.

SERIES HISTORY
This will be the 44th all-time meeting between ODU and Richmond. The Lady Monarchs lead the all-time series, 24-19, but the Spiders won last year's meeting 15-8 in Richmond. The teams first met in 1980. 

WEEKLY TEAM CAPTAINS
Morgan Gallagher and Connor Carson have been named team captains for this week. ODU will have weekly team captains for the 2016 season.  Captains are named on each Monday and the honor is given to those who have been leaders for the program both on and off the field.

REGULAR SEASON STREAK
The Lady Monarchs have won nine consecutive regular season games dating back to last season. ODU ended the 2015 season with six straight victories in Atlantic Sun play before falling in the A-Sun semis to Detroit.

'STANDING' OUT
Senior Ashmore Standing is currently 9th all-time in ODU history in both career goals (114) and points (145). 2015 ODU Sports Hall of Fame inductee and three-time All-American Suzanne Wosczyna holds the school record in both categories (206 goals, 325 points).

PRESEASON ALL-CONFERENCE
A total of four Lady Monarchs were named to the preaseason All-Atlantic Sun team, voted on by the coaches. Goalkeeper Maggi Buckley, defender Morgan Gallagher, midfielder Connor Carson and attacker Ashmore Standing all earned the honor. Defender Missy Koscinski and attacker Morgan Marrale were both named to the preseason watch list. As a team, ODU was selected to finish second behind reigning champ Jacksonville.
