NORFOLK, Va. -- The Old Dominion women's lacrosse team seeks a 3-0 start to the season on Saturday, when the Lady Monarchs host cross-state foe Virginia Tech at 1 p.m. at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex.

Old Dominion (2-0) is coming off of a thrilling 12-11 victory over Campbell in the home opener last weekend. Connor Carson netted three goals for the Lady Monarchs, including the game-winning goal off of a free position attempt with just eight seconds remaining. Maggi Buckley was strong in net, tallying 14 saves, while Alex Danks added two goals and one assist.

Through two games, Ashmore Standing leads ODU in scoring with seven points on five goals and two assists. Carson is second with six points. Defensively, Imani Black and Katie Miller each have three caused turnovers, while Morgan Gallagher has caused two turnovers and totaled four ground balls.

Virginia Tech (5-2) earned a 17-2 victory over Radford on Wednesday for the team's fifth win of the season. The Hokies have been led by junior Kristine Loscalzo and sophomore Tristan McGinley so far this season. Loscalzo leads the NCAA in goals with 16, while McGinley leads the country in scoring with 22 total points. Tech's only losses on the year have come to Navy, 12-6, and at No. 20 James Madison, 18-5.

SERIES HISTORY
This will be the 10th all-time meeting between ODU and Virginia Tech. The Hokies lead the series, 7-2, including a win last year in Blacksburg. The teams first met in 1996, when the Lady Monarchs earned a 16-8 victory in Blacksburg.

TEAM CAPTAINS
Morgan Gallagher and Connor Carson have been named team captains for this week. ODU will have weekly team captains for the 2016 season.  Captains are named on each Monday and the honor is given to those who have been leaders for the program both on and off the field.
