IRVING, Texas – Old Dominion men’s tennis sophomore Michael Weindl (Neuching, Germany) has been named the Conference USA Player of the Week after going 4-1 this past weekend, while clinching the victory for the Tennis Monarchs against in-state rival VCU, who was 9-1 overall and 8-0 at home for the season entering the match.
Weindl dropped the first set against VCU’s Catalin Fifea, but proved his resilience when he shined in sets two and three (3-6, 6-2, 6-4). Weindl also clinched the doubles point for the Monarchs against VCU when he and teammate Jacob Nicolussi won 6-4 in the No. 2 slot.
On Court No. 2 against East Carolina, Weindl extended ODU’s lead to 3-0 with a straight-set singles victory over Vlad Anghel (6-2, 6-4).
