NORFOLK, Va. -- Connor Carson scored on a free position attempt with just eight seconds remaining to give the Old Dominion women's lacrosse team a thrilling 12-11 victory over Campbell on Saturday afternoon at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex.

Old Dominion (2-0) led 11-10 with under a minute to go, but Campbell (0-2) tied the game back up as Loren Day scored her fourth goal of the game with 34 seconds remaining. The Lady Monarchs then won the ensuing draw that would to lead a free position attempt for Carson with nine seconds left on the clock. Carson finished her shot into the lower right corner for the game-winning score.

Carson led the Lady Monarchs with three goals, while Alex Danks, Natalie Ledwitz Mary Margaret McCaleb each finished with two goals. Ashmore Standing also added a goal and two assists.

Campbell carried a 5-4 lead into halftime and would maintain their advantage until midway through the final half, when back-to-back goals from Danks and Cydney Tutchton gave the Lady Monarchs a 10-8 lead. The Camels tied the score back up at 10-10, but a Ledwitz goal put ODU back on top before the final minute flurry.

Defensively, Maggi Buckley earned the win in net for ODU, tallying 14 saves, while Missy Koscinski, Katie Miller and Imani Black eached caused two turnovers.

The last time Old Dominion won consecutive one-goal games was 2011, when the Lady Monarchs defeated George Mason and Drexel by one-goal margins.

ODU returns to action a week from today on Saturday, Feb. 27, as the Lady Monarchs host Virginia Tech at 1 p.m. at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex.
