PALM DESERT, Calif. -- The Old Dominion men's golf team is tied for sixth place out of 20 teams after day one of the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate in Palm Desert, California. Ashton Newsom leads the Monarchs as the senior is tied for sixth out of 114 golfers.
Kansas, ranked 46th nationally, leads the pack after the first round while TCU, Colorado, No. 36 Texas Tech and Cal Poly round out the top five, respectively. ODU is tied for 6th with Little Rock.
Sarosh Adi of TCU is in first place after firing a 67 in the first round. Ashton Newsom, currently in a three-way tie for sixth, shot a 70. ODU freshman Calvin Greschner is not far behind in a tie for 12th place after shooting a 72.
Ashton Newsom is tied for first with six birdies and also has the second-lowest par four average (3.80). Calvin Greschner leads all 114 golfers in the field with 16 pars through day one.
