NORFOLK, Va. -- The Old Dominion wrestling team (5-12, 0-6 MAC) is ranked 27th in WIN Magazine’s Tournament Power Index (TPI) heading into the squad’s final two dual meets of the season.
Four Monarchs are ranked individually in the top 20, while five Old Dominion grapplers were ranked in the second-of-four NCAA Coaches' Panel rankings which are used to determine the NCAA qualifier allocations for each weight class at the conference tournaments. Four Monarchs also surfaced in the Ratings Power Index (RPI), which is another a tool used to determine the postseason NCAA qualifier allocations.
Old Dominion dropped two back-to-back meets last Sunday against Eastern Michigan, 19-12, and American, 19-18. Alexander Richardson, Seldon Wright and Jack Dechow all went 2-0 for the day.
The Monarchs will be looking for their first MAC dual meet win as well as the program’s 500th dual meet victory this weekend when ODU hosts Northern Illinois Friday night at 7:30 p.m. at the Ted Constant Center and No. 19 Central Michigan on Sunday at 1 p.m. in the Jim Jarrett Athletic Administration Building Gymnasium. With a win in either match, Steve Martin will also become the second-winningest coach in ODU history.
