NORFOLK, Va. – The No. 64 nationally ranked ODU women’s team (4-3) took down Virginia Commonwealth (1-3) by a 4-3 score on Saturday afternoon at the Thalhimer Tennis Center.The Lady Monarchs are now on a three-match win streak and have also beaten the Rams in consecutive seasons.
Old Dominion started the day by claiming the doubles points, with victories from Borislava Botusharova/Nikol Hristova and Nataliya Vlasova/Ingrid Vojcinakova on Courts two and three. Saturday marked Botusharova’s first action of the 2016 season after suffering an injury last season.
After dropping the first set on Court No. 2, ODU’s Adriana Rajkovic made a dramatic comeback in sets two and three to claim victory over VCU’s Anna Rasmussen (1-6, 7-5, 7-5). Just last week, Rasmussen was nationally ranked No. 98.
Old Dominion’s Nikol Hristova made quick work out of Virginia Commonwealth’s Darya Berezhnaya (6-2, 6-1) on Court No. 3.
ODU’s Ingrid Vojcinakova dropped her first set on Court No. 4, before proving her resilience, as she ended up getting the better of VCU’s Magda Aubets (3-6, 6-2, 6-3).
Old Dominion will be back in action next Friday, Feb. 19 for a double header against Arkansas and Oral Roberts in Fayetteville, Ark.
