NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion women’s basketball freshman guard Makayla Timmons sustained a left knee injury during practice on Friday that will keep her sidelined for the remaining 2015-16 season, as announced by Karen Barefoot on Thursday. Timmons will undergo surgery to repair her injury in the coming weeks.
“Even though Makayla will not be on the court, she will still impact our team in a positive way,” noted Barefoot. “She has tremendous support from her teammates and coaches, as well as her family, that will help her get through this and she will be ready to return next season. I have no doubt that she will work tirelessly to return to peak performance for the 2016-17 season.”
This season, Timmons has played in 21 games, starting in 11. She averaged 3.1 points and 1.6 rebounds per contest, while ranking third on the team with 42 assists on the year. She poured in a career high of eight points in the win over Wagner (11/15) and again in the victory during the Lady Monarchs’ Conference USA opener at Charlotte (1/6). Timmons highlighted the season with a true buzzer-beater at Middle Tennessee to lift ODU over the Blue Raiders, 61-58. Her shot was featured on the SportsCenter Top 10 segment as the No. 7 play of the day on Jan. 17.
