NORFOLK, Va. -- The Old Dominion wrestling team (5-10, 0-5 MAC) is ranked 25th in the tournament team rankings according to WIN Magazine this week as the Monarchs prepare for a double dual meet with Eastern Michigan and American on Sunday.
Last Friday, ODU knocked off Navy, 19-18 on criteria, before 1,162 fans at the Ted Constant Center. The win was the ODU wrestling program’s 499th victory, as the Monarchs will look to clinch the 500-win milestone this Sunday. ODU’s victory over Navy was also Steve Martin’s 136th dual meet win, which ties him for second all-time with Gray Simons on the all-time coaching wins list at Old Dominion.
On Sunday, ODU fell to No. 23 Ohio, 25-16, on the road. Picking up wins for the Monarchs were Chris Mecate, Alexander Richardson, Jack Dechow and Austin Coburn.
In the individual rankings this week, Emilio Saavedra remains as high as No. 11 by InterMat, Chris Mecate is up to No. 10 by The Open Mat, Alexander Richardson moves up to No. 6 according to The Open Mat and Jack Dechow is slotted as high as No. 6 by The Open Mat.
