Men's Tennis Nationally Preseason Ranked No. 56 by ITA

NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion University men’s tennis team is preseason ranked No. 56, as announced by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association today. ODU’s double tandem consisting of Adam Moundir and Aziz Kijametovic enter the season nationally ranked No. 28.

The Monarchs are the highest ranked team from Conference USA, as Rice is ranked No. 58 and UTSA is ranked No. 66.

In October, Moundir and Kijametovic punched their tickets to the 2015 USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y. after capturing the crown at the regional championships at Virginia Tech.

Within the Atlantic region for singles, Adam Moundir is ranked No. 12 and teammate Michael Weindl is ranked No. 16. In the Atlantic regional rankings for doubles, Moundir and Kijametovic enter the season ranked No. 5.

The Old Dominion men’s tennis team finished the 2015 season nationally ranked No. 57 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, which is the program’s highest year-end ranking since 2007, when the team was ranked No. 30.

The Monarchs finished the 2015 season with a 16-3 overall record, while knocking off three nationally ranked opponents in the process: No. 60 Elon (7-0), No. 66 South Alabama (4-3) and No. 75 Rice (4-2). The Tennis Monarchs finished the season with a 7-1 record at home and a 9-2 mark on the road.

ODU placed two players on the All-Conference USA singles teams (Carlos Lopez Villa and Adam Moundir), two squads on the All-C-USA doubles teams (Carlos Lopez Villa/Javier Jover Maestre and Adam Moundir/Michael Weindl), as well as possessed the Freshman of the Year (Adam Moundir).
