ATHENS, Ga. – The No. 57 Old Dominion women’s tennis team took down No. 65 Tulane by a 4-2 score on Friday in the ITA Kick-Off Weekend First Round held at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex on the campus of the University of Georgia. With the victory, the Lady Tennis Monarchs advance to Sunday's Championship at 1:00 p.m. EST.
Old Dominion will take on No. 4 nationally ranked and host Georgia on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. The winner will punch its bid to play in the prestigious National Indoor Championships, which will be hosted by the University of Wisconsin from Feb. 5-8.
After falling behind 1-0 in doubles, ODU would later claim victory in four of the five finished singles matches.
Ingrid Vojcinakova gave Old Dominion its first team point and tied the score at 1-1, when she took down Tulane’s Ipek Birol in straight sets 6-2, 6-2.
ODU’s Adriana Rajkovic tied the match back up at 2-2 when she got the better of Elena Muller in a back and forth match (6-4, 0-6, 6-4).
After dropping her first set on Court No. 1, Nikol Hristova proved to be too much for Naz Karagoz 5-7, 7-6 (9-7), 6-0. Hristova’s win gave Old Dominion a 3-2 edge.
All eyes then turned to Court No. 6, which entailed ODU’s Ivana Vukovic versus Sofia Kurtz. Ultimately, it was Vukovic who defeated Kurtz (6-2, 7-6(7-2) and lifted Old Dominion to a 4-2 win over Tulane on Friday in Georgia.
