NORFOLK, Va. -- Five members of the Old Dominion wrestling team remained within the top 20 in the national rankings this week after the Monarchs (4-6, 0-1) fell to Northern Iowa, 24-12, on Sunday.
Brandon Jeske, who improved his record to 10-6 and lengthened his winning streak to five matches with a 7-3 decision over UNI’s Leighton Gaul, remained No. 19 according to WIN Magazine.
Midlands Champion Emilio Saavedra, despite dropping a tight 2-0 bout to the Panthers’ Josh Alber, remained as high as No. 13 in the country this week according to InterMat. The redshirt freshman from Modesto, California is 15-5 on the year.
The Open Mat ranks Chris Mecate as high as No. 11 at 141 after the redshirt senior suffered a 5-3 loss to Northern Iowa’s Trevor Jauch, and Alexander Richardson is ranked No. 7 at 149 after dominating UNI’s Jake Hodges via tech. fall.
After earning his fourth major decision victory of the season with an 11-2 win over Northern Iowa’s Cody Caldwell, Jack Dechow maintained his No. 3 national ranking by The Open Mat.
