NORFOLK, Va. – The No. 57 nationally ranked Old Dominion women’s tennis team fell by a 5-2 score to No. 37 Florida State of the ACC in the 2016 season opener, which took place outside at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Tennis Monarchs split the first two doubles matches with FSU, before falling to the Seminoles in the final doubles match, 7-5, giving Florida State an early 1-0 advantage.

ODU freshman Natalya Vlasova won her first singles match of the year and of her young career against Gabriella Castaneda in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4. Ingrid Vojcinakova also claimed victory in singles for Old Dominion, when she took down Florida State’s Ariana Rahmanparast (7-6 (4), Def.).

Old Dominion head coach Dominic Manilla was proud of the team’s effort saying, “Florida State is tough. They are a top 40 team in the nation and we weren’t full strength. But I was very pleased with how everybody competed outside the typical positions they play. Each player raised their standards today.”
