Monarchs Fall to ECU in Swimming and Diving

NORFOLK, Va. - Raquel Couto and Reed Mathews led the way for Old Dominion University swimming and diving with two wins apiece but the Monarch men and women fell to East Carolina Saturday at the JC Scrap Chandler Pool.

Couto won the first race of the day for ODU with a time of 10:32.21 in the 1000 free and won her second event in the 200 backstroke in a time of 2:04.30.

Colleen VandePoel added a win in the 100 backstroke with a time of 56.79 while Ashley Brem won the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:03.04.

Jacob Zeidler won the first men's race of the day with a time of 56.90 in the 100 breaststroke.

Mathews won his first race of the day with a time of 1:50.82 in the 200 fly while winning the 100 fly in a time of 49.19.

Vitor Sa notched another win for ODU in the 100 free with a time of 46.61.

Philip Nordenberg followed with a win in the 200 breaststroke in a time of 2:07.23.

Emilie Petit registered the final ODU win of the meet in the 200 IM with a time of 2:08.65.

The Monarchs host George Washington and St. Andrews next Saturday, Jan. 23, in the season finale at the JC Scrap Chandler Pool at 2 p.m.
