Seven Monarchs Receive Conference USA Honors

IRVING, TEXAS – Old Dominion University football had seven players honored on the All-Conference USA squad, the league announced on Tuesday.  Junior linebacker TJ Ricks, wide receiver Zach Pascal and sophomore running back Ray Lawry earned second-team honors while senior safety Fellonte Misher was named honorable mention while center Nick Clarke, defensive end Oshane Ximines and kicker Chris Kirtley were named to the All-Freshmen team.

A native of Logan Township, N.J., Lawry led Conference USA in rushing with 1,136 yards and in yards per game with 103.3 and was third in the league in rushing touchdowns.  He tied for the league high in games over 100 yards with fellow second team all-conference pick Anthony Wales of WKU and Ito Smith of Southern Miss with six and he was the only player in the league to have a pair of 200-yard rushing games.  He had three-straight 100-yard rushing games against FIU, WKU and UTSA and started the season with two-straight 200-yard games at Eastern Michigan and Norfolk State.

A native of Upper Marlboro, Md., Pascal led the Monarchs and finished sixth in the league with 68 catches for 970 yards and eight touchdowns. He had100-receiving yards or more in four of the last five games and had the second highest total of receiving yards in a game on the year, his 231 in the win over Charlotte was second only to Davonte Allen’s 232 for Marshall, also against Charlotte.  Pascal also rushed 15 times on the year for 165 yards including a 75-yard touchdown run at FIU. 

Ricks led Conference USA in tackling with 123 stops on the year and 10.2 per game.  A native of Hampton, Va., he had six games of double-digit tackles on the year, along with 5.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks.  He tied for the team lead with two fumble recoveries and was second on the team with seven pass breakups and intercepted his first pass of the season against Florida Atlantic.

Misher finished seventh in Conference USA with 99 tackles and 8.2 tackles per game.  He tied for the league lead with four interceptions and ranks third in school history with eight career interceptions.  He recorded his first career half a sack this season and finished with 1.5 tackles for loss, two forced fumbles and five pass breakups. He completed his ODU career second in school history with 288 tackles.

Clarke played in all 12 games at center, starting nine, including the final six games of the season. He helped pave the way for Ray Lawry to become ODU’s first 1,000-yard rusher in school history.

Ximines led the Monarchs with five sacks and 7.5 tackles for loss. He finished his redshirt freshman season with 32 tackles, nine quarterback hurries, four pass breakups and a fumble recovery.

Kirtley took over place-kicking duties the fifth game of the season and went 21-of-23 on extra points and 10-of-13 on field goal opportunities. His only two missed extra points were blocked. He was 4-of-5 between 40-49 yards with a long of 45 in the win over Charlotte.  Kirtley finished the year making six-straight field goals including a 43-yarder in the finale against Florida Atlantic.
