ODU Women's Basketball Faces In-State Rival W&M Tuesday

NORFOLK, Va. -- The Old Dominion women’s basketball team is back in action on Tuesday, December 29, as the team heads to Williamsburg to battle William & Mary at 5:00 p.m. in Kaplan Arena.

ABOUT ODU
The Lady Monarchs enter the matchup with a 4-7 overall record after defeating the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks by a 69-52 margin. Jennie Simms led Old Dominion with 19 points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals. Destinee Young added 16 points and a team-high nine boards, while Keyana Brown chipped in 12 points. Carolina Bernardeco once again quarterbacked the offense and dished out a game-high five assists. For the game, ODU shot 39.7 percent from the field (25-63), while holding UMES to 35.2 percent (19-54) and 2-of-16 from the three-point line (12.5). ODU also outscored UMES 22-8 in bench points.

Simms leads ODU with 16.4 points per game, while Young adds 10.4 points and leads the team with 7.4 rebounds per contest. Over the last four games, Bernardeco is averaging 5.5 assists and only 1.8 turnovers and leads the team with 27 assists on the season. As a team, the Lady Monarchs average 57.4 points (-6.3 margin) and 35.2 boards (-4.8 margin) per outing.

SERIES HISTORY
The Lady Monarchs are 56-4 overall against W&M in the series that began in 1969. ODU last faced the Tribe on Nov. 17, 2014 and defeated W&M 65-58 at the Ted Constant Center. Simms recorded 15 points and 10 rebounds, resulting in her first collegiate double-double of her career.  Also in double figures for the Lady Monarchs were Chelisa Painter (13 points, eight rebounds), Tiffany Minor (13 points, seven rebounds) and Odegua Oigbokie (11 points, six rebounds). Destinee Young ended the contest with a career high five blocks.

ABOUT WILLIAM & MARY
William & Mary fell to in-state rival VCU 73-47 on the road on last Monday night and with the decision the Tribe fell to 8-2 overall. Abby Rendle and Marlena Tremba led the Tribe with eight points apiece. Ali Engelhardt also chipped in seven points off of the bench for the Green and Gold. W&M shot a season-low 30-percent (16-of-53) from the field, and only recorded 10 assists. In its two losses this season, W&M has averaged only 11 assists, as opposed to nearly 18 per game in its eight victories.

For the season, Tremba leads W&M with 14.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.1 steals per outing. Rendle adds 10.3 points and ranks second on the team with 6.7 rebounds, while Alexandra Masaquel chips in 11.8 points and a team-leading 7.8 rebounds per contest. As a team, the Tribe average 63.6 points (+6.4 margin) and 36.8 rebounds (-0.7 margin) per game.
