NORFOLK, Va. -- ODU 141-pounder Chris Mecate moved up to No. 2 in the nation after defeating NC State’s Kevin Jack last week in a rematch of last year’s NCAA fifth-place bout. The fifth-year senior from Highland, California scored a takedown in overtime to clinch the 5-3 OT win in the featured bout of the dual meet.
The Old Dominion wrestling team (2-3) is ranked No. 10 as a tournament team by InterMat and as high as No. 17 by FloWrestling in this week’s national rankings update. The Monarchs dropped a 19-18 heartbreaker in the home opener against UNC before splitting bouts with No. 3 NC State in a 26-15 loss in Raleigh, North Carolina.
