NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion men’s basketball team (5-6) extended its home win streak to 29 straight with a 77-47 victory over UMES (1-10) on Friday night at Ted Constant Convocation Center. The 29 consecutive wins is currently the country’s fourth longest home winning streak.

Old Dominion held a lead for 35:36 of the possible 40 minutes. Trey Freeman led four ODU players in double-digits with 21 points to compliment seven assists. Aaron Bacote followed, pouring in 18 points to go along with five assists. Brandan Stith filled the stat sheet with 14 points, a game-high eight rebounds and a game-high five blocks.  Zoran Talley also added 14 points, while hauling down five boards.

The Monarchs assisted on 21 of their 29 made field-goals. ODU shot 62.5% (15-24) from the floor in the second half and 55.8% (29-52) for the ballgame. Old Dominion held a 47-9 advantage for points in the paint and a 25-5 advantage for fast-break points. The Monarchs forced a total of 18 UMES turnovers. For the contest, UMES shot 26.9% (14-52) from the floor.

The Hawks were led by a career-high 23 points from Dontae Caldwell on 7-11 shooting.

The Hawks started the second half on a 14-4 run to pull within 16 (44-28) with 15:40 to play, but the Monarchs answered back with an 18-7 run to extend their lead to 62-35 with 10:54 remaining in regulation.

ODU would hit 11 straight field-goal attempts to take a 70-42 advantage with 5:35 to play, before ultimately claiming a 77-47 victory on Friday night in Norfolk.

In the first half, Old Dominion used a 25-4 run over an 8:55 span to jump out to a 33-9 lead with just under four minutes remaining, as UMES didn’t score double-digits until the 3:42 mark.

The Monarchs would a claim a 40-16 lead going into the locker rooms at halftime, behind a half-high 12 points and half-high five rebounds from Brandan Stith. ODU led for 15:41 of the 20 minutes and held a 28-0 advantage for points in the paint. Also in double-figures for Old Dominion was Zoran Talley with 10 points. The Monarchs held the Hawks to 20% (5-25) shooting form the floor in the first half.
