RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond men's basketball team (7-3) defeated Old Dominion by a score of 77-61 on Wednesday night at the Robins Center. Trey Freeman paced the Monarchs (4-6) with 15 points, while Denzell Taylor recorded his third double-double of the season going for 10 points and 10 rebounds. Brandan Stith (seven rebounds) and Nik Biberaj each scored eight points.

Old Dominion shot 50% from the floor and from three in the second half; however, U of R connected on 69.6% from the floor in the second half and 57.4% for the ballgame. Old Dominion’s bench outscored Richmond’s 24-10.

The Spiders were led by T.J. Cline’s game-high and career-tying 27 points on 11-16 shooting and 5-8 from deep. Also in double-figures for Richmond were Terry Allen (22 points and 13 rebounds) and ShawnDre Jones (12 points and six assists).

Richmond used a 21-2 run over a 5:28 span including a 16-0 run over a 3:19 span to jump out to an early 30-11 advantage with 6:35 remaining in the opening half. The Monarchs answered back with a 9-0 run of the own over a 3:34 span to cut their deficit to 32-22 with 2:04 to play.

Richmond ended the half on a 4-0 run, claiming a 36-22 lead at halftime behind 10 points from Terry Allen (nine rebounds) and T.J. Cline. ODU’s Brandan Stith paced the Monarchs with six points and five rebounds in the opening 20 minutes of action.

Richmond outscored Old Dominion 20-10 in the first nine minutes of the second half to claim a 24 point lead (56-32), Cline poured in 15 of the 20 for the Spiders during the run. By the under-eight media timeout, U of R led 67-40 with 7:18 remaining in regulation.

The Monarchs ended the contest on a 21-4 run, bringing the final score to 77-61 in Richmond on Wednesday night. For the second half, Richmond outscored Old Dominion 41-39.

NEXT UP FOR THE MONARCHS
Old Dominion will be back in action this Friday, Dec. 18 against UMES at the Ted Constant Convocation Center, where the Monarchs have won 28 consecutive games. TIPOFF IS SLATED FOR 6:00 P.M.
