NORFOLK, Va. -- The Old Dominion wrestling team remains as high as No. 11 in the latest rankings leading up to the Monarchs’ showdown with No. 14 North Carolina this Sunday.
As a team, ODU maintained its No. 11 ranking in the InterMat tournament team poll and fell one spot to No. 12 in FloWrestling’s team rankings.
Redshirt junior Jack Dechow moved into the No. 2 slot at 184 according to FloWrestling and jumped to No. 3 in the InterMat and The Open Mat publications. The 2014 NCAA fourth place finisher is undefeated at 3-0 and has recorded major decisions in all three wins.
Alexander Richardson is ranked fourth by InterMat and The Open Mat and is currently No. 5 according to FloWrestling and WIN Magazine at 149. The senior from New Jersey is also 3-0 on the year and has racked up two falls for the Monarchs.
At 141, Chris Mecate is ranked No. 2 by WIN Magazine, No. 3 by FloWrestling and No. 5 by InterMat and The Open Mat. The fifth-year senior is 3-0 on the year heading into Sunday’s matchup.
The Monarchs host No. 14 North Carolina in their home opener on Sunday, Dec. 13 at 7 p.m. at the Ted Constant Center.
