NORFOLK, Va. -- The fourth-seeded Old Dominion men's soccer team takes on fifth-seeded FIU in the quarterfinals of the Conference USA Tournament on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Transamerica Field in Charlotte, North Carolina.
ODU (8-4-3, 3-3-2) was also the No. 4 seed last year, when the Monarchs won the C-USA Tournament on their home turf. Ivan Militar leads ODU in scoring with 12 points (3g/6a), while Josue Henriquez (5g/1a) and Niko Klosterhalfen (4g/3a) have also been key contributors. The Monarchs enter the tournament on a two-match losing streak, the team's only two-game skid of the year.
FIU (9-6-1, 3-4-1) had the top-ranked offense in the conference during the regular season with a 2.06 goals per game average. However, the Panthers have not scored in their last three matches. Luis Betancur leads the team with seven goals, while Jamar Campion-Hinds has tallied nine assists, which leads C-USA.
The Panthers won the regular-season meeting, 2-1, in Miami. In that match, the Monarchs went ahead 1-0 on a David Macsicza goal, but FIU rallied with two late goals to earn the victory.
ODU-FIU is the first of three quarterfinal matchups on Wednesday. No. 3 South Carolina takes on No. 6 New Mexico at 4:30 p.m. followed by No. 2 Charlotte versus No. 7 Marshall at 7 p.m.
All three quarterfinal matches will be streamed live on the C-USA Digital Network. Live updates from Charlotte will also be provided on Twitter via @ODUMensSoccer.
