CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- The Old Dominion women's rowing team ended its fall season with a stellar performance at the Head of the Hooch Regatta this weekend in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

"This was a great weekend of racing," said head coach Daniel Garbutt. "This group has demonstrated consistent improvement and a resilience this fall. That is very exciting for me as a coach."

ODU sent four boats to the 'The Last of the Great Fall Regattas', which is held on the Chattahoochee River and is one of the world’s largest rowing regattas, with 2,000+ boats racing over two days. The course is 5,000 meters (3.1 miles).

On Saturday, the Lady Monarchs had three boats compete in the Women's Championship 8+ race, led by the top Varsity 8 boat that placed seventh with a time of 16:59.1, finishing ahead of the top boats for North Carolina and Alabama.

The second Varsity 8 boat finished 12th (17:25.9) and the third placed 20th (18:01.9). Clemson won the Championship 8+ race with a time of 16:19.4.

The ODU Novice 8 then finished 21st out of 45 boats in the Women's College & Club Novice 8+ race with a time of 20:09.0. Alabama won the race in 16:49.8.

On Sunday, ODU's three Varsity 8 boats returned to the water to compete in the Open 8+ race and all three boats improved on their finishes and times.

The top boat placed third (16:24.4), the second finished sixth (16:46.6) and the third crossed the finish line 16th (17:36.2). Oklahoma won the Open 8+ (16:23.1).
