WINSTON SALEM, N.C. - The Old Dominion men’s tennis team will compete this weekend at the Wake Forest Invitational in Winston-Salem, N.C. from Friday, Nov. 6 through Sunday, Nov. 8. The Monarchs were originally also supposed to compete in the W&M Tribe Invite, but the school had to cancel the event due to circumstances beyond its control.

Here are the 18 teams that will be competing in Winston-Salem this weekend: Wake Forest, Duke, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Kentucky, Indiana, NC State, Liberty, Tennessee Tech, East Carolina, UNCG, Navy, Dartmouth, Penn, Georgia State, Georgia Southern, Norfolk State and Old Dominion.

Last time in action, ODU battled it out with VCU in the Ram-Monarch Challenge as a makeup for the cancelled W&M Invite. The Monarchs’ Michael Weindl was named a co-champion in the singles portion of the event alongside VCU’s Vitor Lima. Weindl defeated Catalin Fifea 6-2, 5-7, 7-5 on Saturday and beat Michal Voscek 6-0, 6-3 on Sunday. ODU’s Zvonimir Podvinski, Jose Nunez Navarro, Justin Herrera and Aziz Kijametovic split matches in singles over the weekend, while Darragh Glavin won his lone singles match of the weekend.

At the ITA Regionals in Blacksburg, Va. the week prior, Adam Moundir and Aziz Kijametovic captured the doubles crown and punched their tickets to the USTA/ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships. Moundir also shined in the singles tournament as he finished in second place. Moundir also advanced all the way to the Championship match in singles before falling to Virginia Tech’s No. 4 seeded Joao Monteiro for the regional crown.

The Wake Forest Invite will be the last invitational of the fall season for the Monarchs as a team, but Moundir and Kijametovic will travel to Flushing, N.Y. next week to compete in the National Indoor Championships at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center to be held on Nov. 12-15.
