NORFOLK, Va. -- After dominating San Francisco State and Cal Poly last weekend in the Monarchs’ double-dual at Gilroy High School in California, the ODU wrestling team (2-1) remained as high as No. 12 nationally in the team rankings. Individually, four Monarchs are still ranked within the top 20 in their respective weight classes.
Brandon Jeske, who picked up two major decision victories in California, is ranked No. 20 at 125 by FloWrestling and The Open Mat. The junior from Virginia Beach is now 2-1 on the season.
Chris Mecate remains as high as No. 2 in the country at 141 by FloWrestling and WIN Magazine after earning a major decision and tech fall last weekend. Mecate will carry a perfect 3-0 mark into ODU’s home-opener against North Carolina where he will likely take on No. 6 Evan Henderson.
At 149, after extending his season record to 3-0 over the weekend, Alexander Richardson is ranked No. 4 by InterMat and The Open Mat. The senior from New Jersey already has two falls to his credit on the young season.
Jack Dechow remains at No. 5 by FloWrestling after picking up two more major decision victories against San Francisco State and Cal Poly. The Illinois native is now 3-0 on the year with all three victories coming via major decisions.
As a team, the Monarchs are ranked as high as No. 12 by FloWrestling. Old Dominion is ranked No. 14 in InterMat’s tournament team rankings and is also No. 17 in WIN Magazine’s Tournament Power Index.
