NORFOLK, Va. -- Old Dominion returning All-American Chris Mecate moved up to No. 2 in FloWrestling’s rankings this week while Alexander Richardson and Jack Dechow remain in the top ten in multiple publications.
Mecate picked up a 4-0 decision victory over Virginia’s Zach Watson in the Monarchs’ season-opener last Sunday. Now 1-0 on the season, Mecate will return home to his native California this weekend for the Monarchs’ double-dual meet with San Francisco State and Cal Poly on Saturday, Nov. 21 in Gilroy.
Alexander Richardson impressed in his lone bout of the season so far as well, pinning the Cavaliers’ Chris Yankowich in the second period to earn six team points for ODU. Richardson is now ranked as high as No. 4 at 149.
At 184, Jack Dechow also picked up crucial bonus points for Old Dominion against Virginia, as the redshirt junior toppled the Cavaliers’ Tyler Askey by a 14-2 major decision in the dual meet’s opening bout. Dechow is currently ranked as high as No. 5.
Junior Brandon Jeske has also surfaced in multiple publications and is ranked as high as No. 19 at 125 for the Monarchs.
As a team, Old Dominion checks in as high as No. 12 according to FloWrestling and remains inside the top 25 by the USA Today/NWCA, InterMat and WIN Magazine polls.
