CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- The No. 16 Old Dominion wrestling team (0-0) will hit the road for its first dual meet of the season on Sunday, Nov. 15 for a ranked matchup with No. 23 Virginia (2-1). The match will take place at UVA’s Memorial Gymnasium at 1 p.m.

The Monarchs opened up the season last Sunday at the Jonathan Kaloust Bearcat Open in Binghamton, N.Y. Redshirt freshman 133-pounder Emilio Saavedra dropped a hard-fought battle against Cornell’s third-ranked, three-time All-American Nahshon Garrett by a 4-1 score in the opening round before reeling off four straight victories in the consolation bracket.

In similar fashion, ODU’s true freshman Seldon Wright fell to Cornell’s ninth-ranked Duke Pickett by a 1-0 decision in the first round before also pulling off four consecutive wins in the consolations. Both Saavedra and Wright were then withdrawn from the tournament due to time constraints.

Heading into Sunday’s meet, the Monarchs will look to take down a Virginia squad that boasts three-nationally ranked wrestlers and is coming off a 2-1 weekend at the Gopher Duals. The Cavaliers defeated South Dakota State and Grand Canyon before falling to No. 24 Minnesota by a narrow 19-15 score.

George DiCamillo, Andrew Atkinson and Fox Baldwin head into Sunday’s match with undefeated records for UVA. DiCamillo is a two-time NCAA Qualifier for the Cavaliers and earned ACC Freshman of the Year honors in 2013. Nick Herrmann, Andrew Atkinson and Zach Nye have also represented Virginia at the NCAA Championships in previous seasons.

Next up, the Monarchs head out west for a double-dual meet with Cal Poly and San Francisco State on Saturday, Nov. 21 in Gilroy, California.
