BOSTON, Mass. – Senior point guard Trey Freeman of the ODU men’s basketball team has been named to the to 2015-16 Lute Olson Preseason All-America Team.
Freeman, last year’s C-USA Newcomer of the Year and first team All-League selection (16.9 ppg/3.57 apg) ranks No. 17 on ODU’s all-time scoring list (first two seasons at Campbell). The Virginia Beach, Va.-native led the 2014-15 Monarch squad to a 27-8 overall record, a 13-5 mark in conference play and a birth in the NIT semifinals at Madison Square Garden. In the NIT victory against Charleston Southern, Freeman recorded the first triple-double by an Old Dominion player since 1982 with 14 points, 11 rebs and 10 assists. He was also named to the C-USA’s All-Academic Team in 2014-15.
The award is named in honor of Hall of Fame coach Lute Olson, who won 780 games in 34 seasons, 24 of which were spent at the University of Arizona. During that stretch he led the Wildcats to 11 Pac-10 Conference titles, 23 consecutive NCAA Tournaments, four Final Four appearances and a National Championship in 1997.
