A record eight Old Dominion University athletic teams have been recognized by the NCAA for earning a 100% graduation success rate score in the latest NCAA Graduation Success Rate report released today.
Additionally, all ODU student athletes who entered the university in 2008, graduated at a rate of 79% over a six-year period (2008-14), the university’s highest percentage since the NCAA started keeping records in 1995. NCAA Graduation Success Rates (GSR) measure the percentage of first-time, full-time freshman who graduate within six years of entering a four-year institution.
The eight teams earning perfect scores include men’s basketball, field hockey, men’s and women’s tennis, men’s and women’s golf, women’s rowing, and women’s sailing. Comparatively, ODU had four teams post perfect scores last year.
“Our student athletes are setting records in and out of the classroom and I could not be more pleased that eight of our teams earned perfect GSR scores and that overall our athletes graduated in record numbers,” says ODU Director of Athletics Dr. Wood Selig. “Our combined GSR score jumped three points from last year for a record high, and 11 of our teams improved or maintained their scores from the previous year, which is a credit to our coaches, academic staff and the student athletes enrolled at ODU during this period.”
The national average for all student athletes for this period was 86%, up two points from last year.
