AKRON, Ohio – The Old Dominion men’s golf team wrapped up day one of the Firestone Invitational in fifth place after playing 36 holes at the Firestone Country Club’s North Course on Monday. Individually, Monarch freshman Calvin Greschner is in a six-way tie for ninth place after shooting 67+75=142 on the day.

After two rounds of action, Maryland leads the team race after shooting 284+285=569 on the afternoon. Host school Akron is currently in second place with a score of 290+283=573, while Xavier is in third after shooting 289+287=576. Old Dominion sits in fifth place with a score of 290+289=579.

Individually, Maryland’s David Kocher leads the 90-golfer field after day one after shooting 68+68=136. Otto Black of Toledo sits in second place with a score of 69+68=137, and Jose Montano of Xavier rounds out the top three after shooting 69+70=139.

Senior Ashton Newsom is in a five-way tie for 29th place after 72+73=145 for ODU, while fellow Monarch senior Seth Sweet is tied for 34th place.

The second and final day of the Firestone Invitational begins tomorrow morning at 8:30 a.m.
