NORFOLK, Va. -- The No. 13 Old Dominion men's soccer team squares off against South Carolina on Saturday night at 7 p.m. at the Gamecocks' Stone Stadium.
The match, which will be streamed live on WatchESPN, is a rematch of last year's Conference USA Championship, which the Monarchs won, 2-1, for their first-ever C-USA title.
ODU (8-2-3, 3-1-2 C-USA) currently sits in fourth place in the league, but a victory over the Gamecocks would boost the Monarchs' chances of earning a top seed in the conference tournament.
The Monarchs have been strong on both sides of the ball this season, ranking in the top 30 nationally in both scoring offense and scoring defense. Josue Henriquez (5g/1a), Niko Klosterhalfen (4g/2a) and Ivan Militar (3g/5a) have all tallied a team-high 11 points this season. Defensively, goalkeeper Alex Tiesenhausen has posted five shutouts and leads C-USA with a .820 save percentage.
South Carolina (8-6-1, 5-2-0 C-USA) sits in second place in the conference standings and earned a key 2-0 win over FIU earlier this week. The Gamecocks are undefeated at home this season with a 6-0-1 record. Danny Deakin leads the SC attack with nine goals, while Kevin Walker (5g) and Jeffrey Torda (4g/1a) have also been key contributors.
The Monarchs lead the all-time series, 4-2-0. Last year, despite defeating South Carolina in the C-USA Championship, ODU lost, 1-0, in the regular season.
