NORFOLK, Va. - The Old Dominion men’s tennis team competed against VCU in the Ram-Monarch Challenge in place of the cancelled William & Mary Invitational that was scheduled for Nov. 6-8. The two-day event consisted of matches that were held at ODU for day one, while day two’s matches took place at VCU in Richmond, Va.
The co-champions for the singles portion of the event were Michael Weindl of ODU and Vitor Lima of VCU. Weindl defeated Catalin Fifea 6-2, 5-7, 7-5 on Saturday and beat Michal Voscek 6-0, 6-3 on Sunday.
ODU’s Zvonimir Podvinski, Jose Nunez Navarro, Justin Herrera and Aziz Kijametovic split matches in singles over the weekend, while Darragh Glavin won his lone singles match of the weekend.
The Old Dominion men’s tennis program is coming off great success at the ITA Atlantic Regional Championships last week in Blacksburg, Va., as Adam Moundir and Aziz Kijametovic proved to be unbeatable the doubles tournament, punching their ticket to the USTA/ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y. held on Nov. 12-15. ODU sophomore Adam Moundir also had an impressive run in singles, claiming second place in the regional tournament.
