POWELLS POINT, N.C. -- The Old Dominion men’s golf team wrapped up competition at the ODU/OBX Invitational Tuesday with a third place finish out of 18 teams. Individually, Monarch senior Seth Sweet shot a 69 in the third round to claim a fifth place tie out of 93 participants.
Campbell clinched the team championship, as the Camels finished off the three-day event shooting 267-292-282=841 (-11). Bowling Green slid into a second place finish after shooting a 289 in round three to finish with 281-284-289=854 (+2). Old Dominion rounded out the top three teams after firing a 292 in the last round to finish at 278-287-292=857 (+5).
Craig Hornberger of Campbell earned the individual title after firing a 65 in round three. The Fighting Camel finished the tournament at 64-72-65=201 (-12), while teammate Gaston Bertinotti tied for second place with Drexel’s Christopher Crawford seven strokes behind.
Sweet led the way for the Monarchs after tying for fifth place by shooting 72-71-69=212 (-1). The Monarchs’ David Langley placed 15th, firing 63-78-75=216 (+3) for the tournament. Antonio Cruz-Conde finished in a tie for 18th place, and Calvin Greschner tied for 26th place for ODU.
Competing as an individual, Chad Hess finished in a tie for 16th place after shooting 70-76-71=217 (+4).
ODU’s Sweet finished the tournament with 4.50 (-6) par five scoring average, which was second-best of all golfers. Nick Rencis, competing as an individual, sunk an eagle in the second round of the tournament, and Calvin Greschner finished in a tie for first for most pars with 38. Chad Hess was just one behind Greschner with 37 pars.
