NORFOLK, Va. -- The ODU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is collecting in-person and online donations (through Dec. 11) to benefit the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore as a part of its “Let’s SAAC Hunger” food drive. The campaign pits ODU against all other Conference USA institutions in a competition to see which school can collect the most donations by the deadline.
Canned goods and other non-perishable food items can be dropped off in-person to benefit members of the local community in need at the following locations:
· Tues., Oct. 27 & Thurs., Oct. 29: Webb Center from 12:15-1:15 p.m.
· Fri., Oct. 30: Field Hockey Game from 2:30-4:00 p.m.
· Sat., Oct. 31: Football Game from 11:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m.
In addition to the in-person drop-offs, donations can also be purchased online via the “Let’s SAAC Hunger” YouGiveGoods page, found here. Just click on the SHOP NOW button to buy the food you would like to donate, and YouGiveGoods will deliver the food to the food bank and email you a tax receipt. The online donation page will remain active until Dec. 11.
The foodbank suggests that donated items be non-perishable and concealed in non-breakable containers. Among many possibilities, some ideas for food items include: peanut butter, canned meats or beans, canned fruits or vegetables, cereal, oatmeal, rice, boxed meals, pasta and sauce. Non-food items such as diapers and baby wipes are also welcomed.
The Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia serves those who are hungry throughout the Foodbank’s 4,745 square-mile service area including the cities of Norfolk, Portsmouth, Chesapeake, Suffolk, Franklin and Virginia Beach as well as the counties of Southampton, Northampton, Sussex, Isle of Wight and Accomack.
