BUIES CREEK, N.C. -- The ODU women’s golf team turned in a runner-up finish at the Fighting Camel Classic, which was hosted by Campbell at the Keith Hills Golf Club. Lady Monarch freshman Charlotte De Corte tied for seventh place among 84 golfers in the three-day tournament.
Ranked No. 54 nationally, Campbell clinched the team trophy after shooting 306+301+295=902 (+38). The Lady Monarchs claimed sole possession of second place out of 15 teams after firing a 295 in the third round, a 23-stroke improvement from round two. Overall, ODU finished with 306+318+295=919 (+55), while Northern Arizona rounded out the top three by shooting 315+310+302=927 (+63).
In the individual standings, Old Dominion’s Charlotte De Corte fired a 72 in round three to move all the way up to a seventh place tie, finishing with strokes of 76+80+72=228 (+12). Fellow Lady Monarch freshman Sana Tufail finished in a three-way tie for 10th place, while Maggie Simmermacher tied for 16th and Kate Vlasinova tied for 20th.
As a team, ODU finished third in par three, four and five average, and the Lady Monarchs had the most pars of all teams with 153.
Maggie Simmermacher recorded a par five average of 4.58 (-5), which ranked first among all golfers. Charlotte De Corte sunk 36 birdies, which tied for second-most in the tournament.
