ODU's Walker Claims Third at Pinehurst Challenge

PINEHURST, N.C. – Old Dominion’s Rachel Walker tied for third place at the Pinehurst Challenge after shooting a 68 in the final round of the event on Tuesday afternoon. The Lady Monarch junior moved up eight slots from an 11th place tie at the end of the first two rounds.

Kate Vlasinova finished in a tie for 15th place for ODU after shooting 70+68+78=216 (E) for the tournament. Vlasinova had 34 pars and shot 10 birdies over the course of the two-day event.

For the tournament, Walker shot 12 birdies, one eagle and had 34 pars. Lady Monarch freshman Sana Tufail also sunk an eagle on the first day of the event.

William & Mary’s Alessandra Liu clinched the individual championship, shooting a three-round 206 which was a new tournament 54-hole record.

Since the three Lady Monarch golfers competed in the event as individuals, a team score for Old Dominion was not kept.

The Old Dominion women’s golf team returns to action this weekend at the Campbell Fighting Camel Classic in Buies Creek, N.C. from Oct. 18-20.
