NORFOLK, Va. -- Old Dominion field hockey freshman goalkeeper Kealsie Robles has been named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week, while sophomore forward Danielle Grega was named to the honor roll, as announced by the conference office on Monday.
Robles made her first career start in goal on Friday against No. 19 Michigan State, helping to preserve the 4-3 win for the Lady Monarchs. The next day, she anchored the ODU defense that allowed just three Kent State shots, recording the team’s first shutout of the season in the 6-0 conquest. For the week, Robles played all 140 minutes in goal, notched a 1.5 goals-against average and posted a 2-0 record.
Grega garnered honor roll accolades after leading the team with seven points in two games. She scored what proved to be the game-winning goal against No. 19 Michigan State and dished out one assist. In the Kent State game, Grega scored once in the first half and then again late in the second.
The Lady Monarchs will be back in action on Friday, Sept. 11, as they host old CAA rival William & Mary at 7:00 p.m. at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex. ODU holds a 45-12 advantage in the series that dates back to the 1974 season.
