GREENVILLE, N.C. – The Old Dominion women’s golf team captured second place at the Lady Pirate Invitational at the Brook Valley Country Club in Greenville, N.C. The Lady Monarchs’ Maggie Simmermacher finished in fourth place out of the 90 participants in the field.
East Carolina held on in the final round to clinch the team victory after shooting 297-298-296=891 (+27). ODU claimed the runner-up finish on the final day of the event after shooting 300-296-302=898 (+34). Finally, Elon was the third place finisher with a final score of 307-311-303=921 (+57).
Individually, William & Mary’s Alessandra Liu took home the tournament crown, shooting 72-70-75=217 (+1) over the course of the two-day event. East Carolina’s Lisa Pettersson and Nico Engstroem Skaug shared the second place finish while ODU’s Maggie Simmermacher claimed sole possession of fourth place by shooting 73-74-75=222 (+6).
Old Dominion junior Rachel Walker notched a three-way tie for seventh place with a score of 72-77-75=224 (+8), and ODU freshman Charlotte De Corte impressed after tying for 10th place by shooting 78-71-76=225 (+9). Katerina Vlasinova tied for 14th place for the Lady Monarchs as well, shooting 77-74-76=227 (+11).
ODU led all 17 teams in the field with 35 birdies and also had the highest par five average (4.87). Individually for the Lady Monarchs, Simmermacher had nine birdies while Walker and Vlasinova had eight apiece.
