NORFOLK, Va. -- The 16th-ranked Old Dominion men’s soccer team hosts UAB for its first home Conference USA match of the 2015 season on Friday, Sept. 25, at the ODU Soccer Complex. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.

“We know they’re a big team,” said head coach Alan Dawson about the Blazers. “They play good soccer and they always have. It’s our first home Conference USA match, so we’re looking forward to it.”

ODU (4-1-1, 0-0-1 C-USA) has not lost since the season opener, a 2-0 defeat to current No. 5 Coastal Carolina, and have won four of the last five matches. Last weekend, the Monarchs played to a 1-1 draw at preseason C-USA favorite Charlotte.

The Monarchs’ offense has been one of the best in the country this season, as their 2.50 goals per game average ranks 13th in the NCAA. Senior forward Josue Henriquez leads ODU with four goals, while senior midfielder Ryan Condotta and freshman midfielder Niko Klosterhalfen are second on the team in scoring with three goals and one assist each. Junior goalkeeper Alex Tiesenhausen has been strong between the pipes for ODU, posting two shutouts and 0.94 goals against average.

UAB (3-5-0, 0-1-0 C-USA) droped its C-USA opener to South Carolina, 1-0, and enter Friday’s showdown on a two-match losing streak. The Blazers have played a difficult schedule to open the season, as three of their five losses have come to ranked foes. Senior forward Freddy Ruiz, who was named to the MAC Hermann Trophy preseason watch list, has two goals and two assists on the year.

ODU has never lost to UAB, winning all seven previous matchups between the two schools. Last year, the Monarchs defeated the Blazers, 3-2, in the regular season.

Tickets are $5 with discounts available for children, seniors, faculty, military and groups. ODU students are admitted free with ODU ID. For more information on tickets, call 757-683-4444.
