KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Following a two-win weekend, the Old Dominion men’s soccer team has moved up ten spots to No. 12 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Top 25, the organization announced on Tuesday.
Last week, ODU was No. 22 coaches’ poll. This week’s ranking is the highest ODU has been ranked since Oct. 19, 2012, when the Monarchs were No. 8.
The Monarchs defeated Jacksonville and Hartford this past weekend en route to winning the 40th Annual STIHL Classic.
The Monarchs’ only loss this season came to Coastal Carolina, who is ranked No. 5 in this week’s poll. New Mexico, at No. 17, is the only other Conference USA team in the top 25.
In the other national polls, the Monarchs are No. 13 in the Top Drawer Soccer Top 25, No. 10 in the Soccer America poll and No. 14 in the College Soccer News Top 30. In addition, senior defender Michael Nelson was named to Top Drawer Soccer’s National Team of the Week after earning Tournament MVP honors at the STIHL Classic.
ODU begins C-USA play this weekend with a showdown at Charlotte on Saturday, Sept. 19 at 7 p.m.
