LAS VEGAS, Nev. – ODU assistant wrestling coach Alex Dolly went 1-1 at the 2015 UWW World Wrestling Championships in the Senior Freestyle division at 86 kg while representing Ireland. After winning his first round matchup, Dolly fell to the eventual semifinalist and was eliminated from competition once the latter opponent failed to reach the finals.

Dolly jumped out to a great start, beating Nathaniel Tuamoheloa of American Samoa by a 10-0 technical fall in the first round. An archived video of Dolly’s round one match can be seen here.

In the round of 16, Dolly was defeated by Azerbaijan’s Magomedgad Khatiyev, who went on to reach the semifinals. Had Khatiyev held on to his narrow lead in the waning seconds of his semifinal matchup against Selim Yasar of Turkey, Dolly would have been pulled back into the repechage bracket where he could have contended for a bronze medal.

The medal rounds, in which Khatiyev will wrestle for a bronze medal, start tonight at 9:30 p.m. EST.
