CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – After nine days of practices and various team activities, the ODU field hockey team faced outside competition on Saturday afternoon, when the team traveled to North Carolina to take on the Tar Heels at Francis E. Henry Stadium.
The teams played a full 70-minute game, an overtime period and a shootout, gaining valuable experience in a variety of game situations.
ODU fell by a 5-1 score, with its only goal coming on a set corner by junior forward Alyssa Jones. Both goalkeepers saw action in the cage, with sophomore Kelly Weaver making the start and freshman Kealsie Robles playing the second 35 minutes.
The Lady Monarchs open the season next weekend at home, hosting Penn State at 6:00 p.m. on Aug. 28 followed by American on Aug. 30 at 1:00 p.m. Both contests will be played at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex and streamed on Monarch Media.
