Old Dominion Baseball Player Update

NORFOLK, Va. – ODUSports will periodically provide an update on current and former players that are participating invarious leagues throughout the year. The first update includes current players Kurt Sinnen, Nick Lustrino, Connor Myers, Thomas Busbice and MLB draft pick Taylor Ostrich. 

Kurt Sinnen is playing for the DC Grays in the Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League. This past week, Sinnen played in the BSN Sports All-Star Game, where he went 1-for-1 in his two plate appearances. He had a walk, a single and an RBI, while scoring the winning run. For his efforts he was named the game’s Most Outstanding Player. This past Thursday, Sinnen made an appearance as the catcher and went 1-for-3 with a single and a walk. Overall, he ranks 15th in the league with a .301 batting average and 22 runs. Sinnen has also recorded seven doubles, two homeruns and 15 RBI.

Nick Lustrino and Connor Myers are both playing for the Peninsula Pilots in the Coastal Plains League and made an appearance in the CPL All-Star Game last week. Lustrino took home Offensive Player of the Game honors after finishing 2-for-2 with two runs batted in, one stolen base and one run scored for the winning East team. Myers also had a successful outing, finishing 2-for-2 with two runs scored and a stolen base.

Myers leads the league with 32 stolen bases in 36 attempts on the season, while also posting a .313 batting average and 46 runs scored. Lustrino is one of 16 players that has started in 38 or more games on the year and has registered 39 hits, seven doubles and one home run to go along with his 27 RBI.

Thomas Busbice joins Lustrino and Myers of the Peninsula Pilots squad and has registered a 3.38 ERA and two saves in 24 innings pitched. He has struck out 19 players, while allowing only nine runs. Busbice has also recorded a .175 opponent batting average. All three players will take to the field tonight against the Wilmington Sharks at 7:05 p.m. 

Taylor Ostrich was drafted by the Kansas City Royals earlier in the summer and made his debut with the Arizona League Royals in the Minor League. He has started in 23 games as the first baseman and has posted a .299 batting average. Ostrich has recorded 26 hits, eight doubles, one triple and 10 RBI on the season. He also adds one stolen base and a .988 fielding percentage with 221 putouts. Ostrich will be back in action tonight as the team takes on the Dodgers at 10:00 p.m.
