NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion men’s tennis team finished the season nationally ranked No. 57 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, which is the program’s highest year-end ranking since 2007, when the team was ranked No. 30.

“It's great for our guys to get the ranking at the end of the year,” said ODU head coach Aljosa Piric. “They have worked very hard throughout the season and it's nice to see them get rewarded in this way. We lose Carlos next year and he has helped put our program on the right path, but we return everyone else plus a very talented incoming freshman class. We look forward to continue our progress and better our program in the future.”

The Monarchs finished the 2014-15 season with a 16-3 overall record, while knocking off three nationally ranked opponents in the process: No. 60 Elon (7-0), No. 66 South Alabama (4-3) and No. 75 Rice (4-2). Piric had his Tennis Monarchs nationally ranked throughout the season.

ODU placed two players on the All-Conference USA singles teams (Carlos Lopez Villa and Adam Moundir), two squads on the All-C-USA doubles teams (Carlos Lopez Villa/Javier Jover Maestre and Adam Moundir/Michael Weindl), as well as possessed the Freshman of the Year (Adam Moundir). Lopez Villa was also named to the Conference USA All-Academic Team, while five Tennis Monarchs garnered All-C-USA Honor Roll recognition for having a 3.0 or higher cumulative grade point average.

Coach Piric managed the 2014-15 season with six rostered freshmen and one senior. The Tennis Monarchs finished the season with a 7-1 record at home and a 9-2 mark on the road.

SIDE NOTE:
This is the first time since 2002, in which both the men and women’s tennis teams at Old Dominion’s ended the season nationally ranked by the ITA. In 2002, the men were ranked No. 73, while the Lady Tennis Monarchs finished No. 61.
