NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion University women’s basketball head coach Karen Barefoot announced today that Aneesah Daniels (Decatur, Ga.), a 6-0 forward/center, who played for Alabama and Clemson, will join the Lady Monarchs this fall as a redshirt senior.

"We are thrilled to welcome Aneesah to our Lady Monarch Family," Barefoot said. “She is an solid player who will bring great leadership and depth to our front court. On top of that, she is a young lady of high character, who will represent our program with high standards.”

Daniels played her freshman season at Alabama in 2011-12, appearing in 29 games and starting in five. She was named SEC Freshman of the Week on Nov. 28, 2011, after her performance in the Paradise Jam tournament against Old Dominion, Seton Hall and Louisiana Tech. Against the Lady Monarchs, she posted seven points and six rebounds in 20 minutes. Daniels poured in a career high of 13 points against Seton Hall and grabbed a career high 13 rebounds versus Kansas.

After one season at Alabama, Daniels transferred to Clemson and had to sit out the 2012-13 season due to NCAA transfer rules. Prior to the 2013-14 season, she suffered a season ending neck injury, which carried over to the 2014-15 season.

Daniels was a four-star high school recruit who was ranked No. 96 overall and No. 29 at her position by ESPNU HoopGurlz. As a senior, she was selected as the Georgia 4A Region Player of the Year. She helped lead Redan High School to a 30-1 record and the Class AAAAA State Championship in her junior season.

“I'm beyond excited for the next phase of my life of becoming a Lady Monarch,” said Daniels. “I want to be a good teammate and bring positive energy, as well as assist the team in winning its first Conference USA championship. I'm really looking forward to playing for Coach Barefoot and some of the best fans in the country.”
